Procare moved into its new buidling and nursery in Alphen aan den Rijn in October 1998. The new premises, which are now 5 times as large were converted in “no-time” into an advanced nursery with ten 50 m2 cultivation cells.
Secondhand materials were used again used because the future was still uncertain. This time, it was built with insulated cooling cell panels. The self designed climate installations are fitted with heating, ventilation and circulation. A simple hygrostat ensures that the correct air humidity is maintained.
One year later, 4 smaller cultivation cells were also built for the cultivation of Hawaiian mushrooms.
With this, the total production capacity has been increased to approximately 30,000 kilos per year.
We took up the preparation of the culture (sowing seed) ourselves. To this end, a steriliser was acquired and a laboratory was built. An automatic carton filling machine was also developed for the cultivation in order to make much of the manual work lighter.
Distribution was further professionalized. Packaging and labels were designed and a cooling van was acquired for transport to the shops.
This did not go unnoticed outside the country’s borders. Enquiries were already coming swiftly from England. In the meantime, the nursery was running at full blast and enquiries kept increasing. From this, it seemed that the nursery was once more too small. In order to meet the increasing demand we went in search of a larger accomodations.
