At the time of the alarming reports in the media, the brothers looked at how mushrooms were regulated by law. It was suspected that the drying of mushrooms could one day be banned.
If that were to be so, then it meant that there would have to be a daily delivery of fresh paddenstoelen in order to supply the shops adequately with the products.
The men took the decision to build 4 small cultivation cells of 25 m2 each. Simple materials such as wooden constructions and agricultural foil was used for building, because the future was uncertain.
Procare’s production capacity quickly became too small due to the rapid growth in its market share. A plan for relocation and extension of production to more than double the then capacity was drawn up.
In the meantime the first trial of a grower in the Den Bosch area took place, and it was finally decided that he had been drying mushrooms. In that year, the court in Den Bosch said it considered the drying of mushrooms as processing, and therefore illegal.
The scenario that the brothers described was confirmed and therefore plans for relocating were put into operation.
